The article is devoted to the problems of assessing the sustainable development of the region. Approaches to assessing sustainable development at different levels of regional management are considered. It has been found that, despite their significant number, there is currently no single approach that would provide a comprehensive and well -founded assessment in order to further select the goals and strategic directions of sustainable development of the regions. It is shown that in order to ensure the effectiveness of management decisions, the complex application of the criteria, system of indicators and research methods is necessary. The methodical approach to the estimation of sustainable development of regions of Ukraine is proposed, in which the general assessment of its level is carried out with the help of the integral indicator constructed of social, economic, ecological, financial and institutional components of the development of rgions of Ukraine. That ensures the efficiency of data analysis to determine the priorities of regional management and the possibility of a comparison of the performance of regional authorities.
